The Importance of God's Word

The Importance of God's Word
By: Olga Escarsega

On this 1st week on learning The Importance of the Word of God, I want to share with you about an article I read.  In which a survey was conducted on church goers that revealed that only 45% of church goers read their bibles only once a week.
No wonder so many believers are struggling and are living unfulfilled lives.

As true followers of Jesus Christ our purpose should be that the Word of God (Bible) take prominence over other person’s opinions.
If we are not familiar with God’s will for us, we will be prone to follow other people’s ideas or advise.  Therefore, it is important to spend time in reading God’s word (Bible).

God warns us in Hosea 4:6 that His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge
Unless we know the truth, which is found in the God’s word, about His will for us we will not resist or will settle for less of what Jesus Christ proved for us on the cross.
If we do not understand that He came to give us an abundant life (John 10:10b), in all areas of our life (marriage, health, finances, work, etc.) our prayers for help or guidance will not be said in faith.

In the early years of my marriage, I was exposed to the truth of God’s Word when I attended a Christian Church.  When I heard the Pastor say that not everyone drank or were alcoholics.  I could not believe him I literally waited and believe someone was going to yell at him, “You liar!”

You see, since I was a child all I was ever familiar with were people who drank (true alcoholics).  When they ran out of money, they would take the colognes and perfumes in the house and drank them for the alcohol it contained.

So, when I heard this Pastor say that we did not have to settle for that type of life.  I fell in love with God’s Word.  I wanted to know more of the truth, I refused to be deceived any longer.  The happiness and peace of my children and myself depended on the truth of God’s will for our lives and I knew the answer were found in the bible.

I learned that God would speak to me through His Word.  In 2 Tim 3:16 it tells us that, all scripture was given by the inspiration of God, and it is profitable for doctrine, for reproof/correction, for instruction in righteousness.

Through this amazing Word:

-I became Born Again (Saved) and would be spending eternity with my heavenly Father
  (Acts 4:12, Rom 10:9, Eph 2:8-9)
-I saw how the Word of God was true (trustworthy) and a shield that I could take refuge in
  times of need. (Prov 30:5)
-I learned that God’s Word was established and unchangeable.  I saw how the impossible
become possible when applying God’s Word to any situation in faith.
  (Luke 1:37, Matthew 19:26, Ps 119:89)

Let me encourage you with the words found in Psalm 119:105, Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

You can be assured that in the Word of God are the answers and pathway towards an Abundant life that Jesus Christ came to give us.

Mother's Day is usually a time to celebrate mothers all over the world and the amazing things they do and sacrifices they have made. You get to read and see the pictures on Facebook of all the great relationships between mothers and their children and stories of years gone by.

Yet there are many people who suffer in silence, longing to have that type of loving relationship and memories with their own mothers. There is a misconception that just because someone gave birth does not mean that they are automatically the loving, maternal kind of mother.
You see, there are many adults who grew up with “loveless mothers” and rarely speak up about the abuse or pain they suffered at the hands and heart of these types of mothers. These type of mothers were unwilling to show them unconditional love, encouragement, protection and lifelong love. In fact, some people even into adulthood still are experiencing ongoing emotional and psychological abuse at the hands of mothers who at times could be mean, evil & manipulative.

I want to address this post to those people that can relate to my writing.

First of all I want to let you know that if you grew up or are still dealing with a “loveless mother” it is not you that is unlovable, nor are you not good enough, or unworthy enough to be loved. It’s not you that has the problem. Sadly these types of mothers will never understand or experience the love they could have received from their children given the opportunity. It is their loss at their own hands.

As adults you do not have to continue suffering in silence and allow the past to affect you any longer. Learn to forgive the unforgivable no matter how many times they keep opening the wound. Remember that it is not wrong to love from a distance in order to maintain your sanity and to live in peace. Most of all allow the love and word of God dictate your worthiness and not the false words of others.

Let me encourage you with these words from your Heavenly Father:

Even if your father and mother abandon you, I the LORD will hold you close. Psalm 27:10
Even if your mother can not or refuses to love you, I will never forget you. Isa 49:15
You are fearfully and wonderfully made by me. Psa 139:13-16
You are precious in my eyes. Isa 43:4
You are my workmanship for good. Eph 2:10
You are worth dying for. John 3:16
You don’t have to fear, because I will always be with you, I will strengthen you, help you, uphold you, and protect you. Isa 41:10

Go out and celebrate Mother’s day knowing that you are so precious and loved by your Heavenly Father and surround yourself with those mothers that are great examples and learn from them.

Can You Add A Single Hour By Worrying?

“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
(Matthew 6:27, NIV)
Are you worrying about something? To worry means to allow something to revolve in your mind over and over again. God doesn’t want you to live worried or anxious about anything. He knows that worry steals your peace and joy. It affects every area of your life. Have you heard the saying, “Don’t worry yourself sick?” That’s because worrying affects your physical body. It affects your sleep. You won’t ever gain anything by worrying; in fact, you’ll lose precious moments that you can never get back again. The good news is that God has promised that you can have victory over worry. It starts by making the choice to trust in Him. When you cast your cares on Him, He will give you His peace.
Today, put an end to worry in your life. Choose to feed your faith and fill your mind with God’s promises. As you focus on God’s Word, you’ll drive out worry and fill your heart with faith and expectancy to overcome in every area of life! --JOM--

Stay Above Strife

“Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.”  Proverbs 17:14, NIV

Too often, people fall into the trap of strife. Someone may say something that rubs you the wrong way, and before you know it, there is tension, quarreling and division. The Bible tells us that strife opens the door to every evil work. It’s the enemy’s greatest trap to keep people from living in victory. But you don’t have to fall into the trap of strife, you can rise above it. Like today’s verse says, you can simply drop the matter before it turns into something bigger than it needs to be. You don’t have to sink down to somebody’s level and argue with them and try to prove that you’re right. You weren’t put on this earth to correct everybody around you.

If you are going to be all that God‘s called you to be, you have to learn to stay above strife. Instead of letting disagreements pull your relationships apart, look for common ground to draw you closer together. Look for peace. Look for ways to be a blessing. Stay above strife so you can enjoy your relationships and experience the blessing He has for you!

Let's Pray:
“Father, I choose to stay above strife. I choose to honor You by seeking peace in my relationships. Empower me to walk in love and be a blessing everywhere I go in Jesus’ name. Amen.“   <JOM>
